Sunday, 9:00 pm -- I think it's time to bring this experiment to a close. I've tried a number of different methods to address my chores and my to do list. I've treated them like a challenge to see how many I could do. I've tried to plan them like a sprint. I tried to make a game of it. I think the thing that's worked the best is when I can spend a few minutes the night beforehand reducing the list for the next day, looking at the stuff I should do. What I have learned in the past few distracted weeks that I'm more likely to get stuff done when I at least check my list. Also, if I can plan out longer periods with my family like we were doing a few years ago I'll have a better chance of success.

Week 57 (Final)
Sunday 3:40 pm -- Wrapping up this week. 224 done. That's fine. I am happy with what I got done. I'm feeling prickly at the moment so I'm hiding in our room with headphones on. I want to put some effort into next week's list to make sure that I end up at the end of the week with very little incomplete. But I won't have a lot of time within which to prepare, so let's see what I can come up with quickly.

Week 56 (Final)
Sunday, 5 pm (final) -- I got derailed a bit this week. I think I'm still rebuilding. I've gone from overly strict planning for the entire week to extremely loose and I haven't found a good solution yet. The problem is that there's always more to do than time to do it. I do think I need to do a little more intentional planning but certainly not doing any of the agile style velocity tracking. In the end, didn't get 200 items completed this week (that's been roughly my goal). I could find a few more items (I made it to 194) but I need to end the week and start the next. If I were really looking at Agile, I would have to cap it at my velocity and there would be more time for the lookback/retrospective and then there'd be more time to plan. But Agile is just impractical.

Week 55 (Final)
Sunday 9:50 pm -- This was a good week. I feel like I got it back in gear. Except for lots of days not watching my calories. Last night's sleep was horrible and I didn't know if we were going to make it to church. We did, quite late, but Ben did well, the message was good, and then we had family and friends over for Easter dinner. Then we all went outside and worked in the yard. Well, Rachel sat on a blanket and ate dinner and Ben ran around and ate some dirt, but it was nice all being outside together. Ben had a lot of expressive language and showed some great comprehension today. I was impressed.
Ended the week with 248 done. I may be counting some stuff a little differently this time around, but at least I'm not slacking. Now, I need to try to figure out how to make the most important stuff the most important, instead of only doing the smallest, easiest - because that doesn't mean getting ahead.

Weeks 53 & 54 (Final)
Sunday 2:15 pm - I didn't hit 400 for the combined two week period. But I think I started to get back to being more disciplined. Partially. But I'm ready to close out the week and dive into next week. I came to realize this week that I let control slip away. I haven't been as aware of my calendar and my email's been a bit of a mess and mail is threatening to get out of control. (Laundry and Feedly have been ok, though. And I've been reading more.) So time to get centered. It's a great, quiet afternoon which I'm going to try to use to shore up my calendar and dive into this next week.

Weeks 50 and 51 and 52 (Final)
Sunday afternoon (final) - So a whole 52 weeks of this experiment has concluded and it kind of felt like it fell apart there at the end. Life threw me for some loops and sometimes I rebounded well, other times I just jumped off the wagon. For chores, for sure. For diet, definitely for sure. Final tally on this three-part week was 449 tasks when normally I would have liked to have had about 200 per week or 600 complete. Let's see if we can do better next week. One part is definitely making sure to document each day, something I slacked quite a bit at there at the end. Ben put himself to bed and took a nap this afternoon so I took advantage of the sunny/rainy (it couldn't decide) afternoon and pulled out the mower and mowed all four lawns, the edger and edged two of the lawns and a rake to rake at the moss. Definitely need to get fertilizer and moss killer. Also trimmed some bushes and pulled some weeds and turned over some of the bark. The yard doesn't look as improved as I wish it did for the work I did, but it also wasn't a lot of work, but still felt good to be out there doing work. Hopefully in time we can get it back on track for this summer (last year was kind of lost) and eventually we won't be the reason none of the neighbors ever worry if they have the worst looking yard on the block.
Friday evening - I realized tonight the significance of this being week 52 - that means I'm a year into the experiment. That said, it's another failure of a week. All heck broke loose this week. There was temporary insanity at work and I thought I was going to have to go find a new job. It was so bad that it made me sick to the point that I stayed home sick on Wednesday. Things righted themselves, but the damage was done, I'd kind of blown off this week, too. le sigh. Oh, and I got addicted to 2048. Like seriously addicted. Like I can't stop playing. Like I went to get the link to put in this article and almost stopped and played a game mid-sentence. If I could play this on my phone, all hope would be lost. Also, my diet has filed for divorce. I cheated on it so bad today, so blatantly, so obviously, rubbed its face in it. You don't want to know, you don't want to know.
Monday afternoon - The first of its kind, a three-week (or possibly four-) accounting. So I've gotten into the habit of using Remember the Milk consistently to make sure I'm getting stuff done. What I have not been consistent in is actually doing stuff, or planning for stuff. I've slacked. I think I need to recommit to a daily check-in to make sure I'm being at least consistent. Walked 2.8 miles today, read from Starters. Did not get up early enough to do any free step before work. 296 completed so far - goal is 400. (Will get more done tonight.)
Thursday evening - This has been an off two weeks. Lori and I were talking about that tonight. We're not sure why, but things have just not been normal, whatever that means. Unless it's a new normal. Not sure. Either way, it's way too late at night for me to still be up considering the poor sleep we've had the last few nights. 222 completed this week - 26 per day to hit 300.
Monday evening - Got a lot done today. Caught up on a bunch of stuff. So if my goal was 200 in one week, I think it's going to be a stretch to get to 300 in two weeks (yes, last week was that bad). 152 completed, 25 per day to hit 300.
Reading - Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking (Susan Cain)
Sunday evening - This was a week of stuff that wasn't exactly the type of stuff you put on a to do list, but stuff that threw me way off course all week long. Frustrating to be so far off course. The stuff itself wasn't necessarily frustrating (though some was) but I really feel like a need some time off after this week and weekend.
Wednesday evening - Been too busy lately to pay too much attention to this, and too many surprises that don't make good to-do list items. Way behind.
Monday evening - I feel like I'm going to be hard-pressed to get 200 items done this week. Another day with less done than I'd hoped. (165 to go, 28 per day to hit 200.)
Sunday evening - I started the new week later than I had originally intended. I got in a run (first in a long time) and also discovered, diagnosed and ordered parts for a leaking washing machine. So I got less done than I'd hoped, but I think I can still get there. (188 to go, 27 per day to hit 200)

Week 49 (Final)
Final - Oops, I missed Friday and Saturday. Friday was just a busy evening and Saturday, well, guess I just forgot. Oops. Got just over the mark with 208 completed.
Reading: Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking (Susan Cain) andThe Happiness Code (Amy Herrick) (completed) and The Fear Index (Robert Harris) (completed)
Thursday evening - Finished a movie tonight called Parker. It had Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez and it took place mostly in the Miami area. All that made me do is think of better movies like Out of Sight, Get Shorty, Transporter(I know, I know) and The Italian Job and how most good Miami movies featured Dennis Farino. I think I do my chores more slowly when I'm watching movies. (136 done this week, 64 to go. 22 per day to hit 200.)
Wednesday evening - A better day and lots of really heavy rain! (109 completed this week, 91 to go. 23 per day to hit 200.)
Tuesday evening - It wasn't a great day, and something threatened to derail it. Something not at all my doing but the kind of thing you're better off the less you know about it. Let me just say grumble grumble grumble and leave it at that. Tomorrow night I have an engagement that was not on my calendar when the week started, so it'll be another night where not enough gets done, but I'm not in a position to say "no" to the last-minute plans. (79 completed this week, 121 to go. 24 per day to hit 200.)
Monday evening - I didn't get as much done as I wanted to tonight, but shaving always really cuts into my ability to get stuff done. More importantly, though, I'm getting reading in. I still want to hit at least 200, but I'm also trying to make sure I read more and goof off less. Like less video games. (42 completed this week, 158 to go. 26 per day to hit 200.)
Sunday evening - I prepped the day earlier and then kicked it off. I didn't work non-stop, I spent time with my family, I sat and read for awhile, and there was a work thing tonight that pulled me away in little bits and pieces. I actually only identified 184 things that I want to absolutely get done this week, but I'm going to see if I can't get over 200 anyhow. (23 completed this week, 177 to go. 25 per day to end at 200.)

Week 48 (Final)
Sunday evening - Squeaked by. 201 done. Harder to get as much done this morning than I'd thought. Partially optimism, partially Lori being sick. Mostly optimism. 28 items that were on my list didn't get done. I still beat 200 by doing stuff that I hadn't originally planned for. I could have checked off more, but I wanted to keep it close to the 3 pm cut-off, even though there was a birthday party today between noon and 3.
Saturday evening - It's always something. Almost wonder why I actually make plans. Perhaps everything should be a nice-to-have. A big derailment today. Family stuff. Not necessarily bad stuff, but not stuff I thought I'd be doing today. Ah well. C'est la vie. (190 dones this week; 10 to go. I guess at least that's doable.)
Friday evening - Forgot to post last night, almost forgot tonight. I think tomorrow by 10 am we'll finally have a little bit of a chance to rest. Not much as we're having people over on Sunday. (147 completed this week, 2 days to go - 27/day to hit 200. Better to do more tomorrow and less Sunday.)
Wednesday evening - I can't tell if this week is going slowly or quickly. I didn't have much of a chance to breathe today. In some ways, it feels like that's been the case the last few days. It's not been entirely bad, but just non-stop from start to finish, constant movement. Perhaps that's why I feel like I've had decent sleep recently, because there's just nothing left to give. Currently reading - Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain. Watching with Lori: Spy (BBC), by myself: Delete, Invasion: Earth (BBC), Better Off Ted. (24 completed today, 97 to go - 24/day)
Tuesday evening - Some unplanned stuff tonight, but still managed to get a bunch done. Also watched a number of episodes of Better Off Ted tonight. Such great lines on that show. (30 completed today; 120 to go - 24/day)
Monday evening - We had an appointment at school so I had to do some work this evening but I still managed to get a bunch of stuff done. (31 completed today; 150 to go - 25/day)
Sunday evening - Ok, I'm going to get back to actually doing stuff this week. Because doing stuff is, like, um, good or something. I made a list of everything due in March that's outside of the normal daily type stuff and then I made my usual set-up for the week. My goal will be to close out 200 items by week's end. (19 completed today; 181 to go - 26/day)

Week 46 & 47 (Final)
Sunday evening (final) - So if I want to complete 200 a week, then completing 316 in two weeks isn't really all that great. Ah, well, such is life. I ended the week well and prepared for the next.
Saturday evening - I got a lot done. An interesting day - started with making everyone pancakes, heavy snow (that didn't stick), coffee that mostly didn't get consumed (the stupid filter tipped over and there was grounds in it and it was weak and bitter), a movie that was too loud for me and then a rush at the end of the day when we realized that there was some stuff we needed to do before tomorrow that we didn't have on our radar. All in all, a really nice day at home. A huge number of items checked off, but quite a few still undone. That's what happens when you keep pushing it forward like a bulldozer. With a few things scheduled for tomorrow, it should be a light end to the week and a light start to the new week.
Friday evening - I actually don't think I'm getting back on track. Maybe tomorrow I'll knock it out of the park. Or maybe life's changed. But I've got this giant to do list each day and except keeping the cats fed, I'm really not getting a lot done. That said, I've actually been getting home from work earlier and spending more time with my family and I've been rocking it at work (if I do say so myself) so maybe the to do list isn't as important yet. Or maybe it is and I'll get back to it.
Tuesday evening - getting back on track. Trying to recover my to do list and get stuff done. Got out of the office earlier tonight (but not as early as I thought I was going to). Also got to bed earlier last night, got up earlier this morning and got some walking in before work. Spent some time tonight trying to figure out why Lori's laptop is having issues.
Monday evening (a week later) - So... it's been a week and then some. There's been a power outage, many sleepless nights (one of them at a hospital), missed work, and more. So, trying to get back on track.
Monday evening - So very, very tired. Bad night of poor sleep again. Over the years I've amassed single shares of crummy stocks as companies spun apart. Sold a bunch of those today. Some for a gain, some for a loss, but all in the name of simplifying. Yay, simplifying.

Week 45 (Final)
Sunday (final) - I've not been very consistent this week. It could mean that I'm doing other things I think are more important. Might be true. Friday date night, and yesterday the iPad workshop and a movie afternoon with the family and then snow. Not that those are excuses, just interesting things. I've been working on decreasing the amount of email I receive and the number of Feedly feeds. I also reduced the number of keys on my keychain by quite a few which is cool. I've also decided I'm not going to get to a month-end summary for January. That ship as sailed. Speaking of snow, I took down the blue and green (Seahawks) lights from the tree out front (it has white lights year round) and replaced them with red ones for Valentine's Day. I worried that people might think it was a candy cane. And then it snowed. So now it totally looks like a candy cane.
This week:
Thursday evening - The last couple of days have been difficult. Yesterday I had events in the morning and middle of the day that messed with my schedule. And then in the evening Ben was sick. Today we had power outages (plural!) that messed with stuff. And there've been some sleep issues recently. So I've kind of bombed this week as far as getting stuff done.
Monday evening - The children had poor sleep. One of them impacted my sleep. I also impacted my sleep by not trying harder to go back to sleep when I woke up. So all my good intentions went out the window and I slept in until the last minute. Got quite a bit done anyhow. Went over my calories because it was way too cold to walk and there's still birthday cake. Birthday cake!
Sunday evening - I actually wasn't going to watch the game. I figured trying to stream it wouldn't work well. But it did, streamed it on two computers (one with the sound off) while Rachel was watching Netflix downstairs and I also had ESPN's GameCast going on - which is a really cool feature. Anyhow, But the game was fun, especially everyone cracking jokes on Facebook. After the game was over, I signed off of Facebook, taking a break. Need to restart this blog. I noticed a few minutes ago that it has gotten 99,988 views. (And I can't go on Facebook and try to drum up a few quick hits, darn it all.) Because I was caught up in the game, I didn't get to everything I wanted to today. Almost all of it. And some other stuff.
Sunday afternoon (prep) - Slowly but surely the system is being optimized. Very little work necessary to get the list prepped for this week, which is good. I want to use it to help me get the right stuff done, but I don't want to waste time on the list itself.
This week:
- Week 45: 161 completed (43 pushed to next week)

- Monday: 28 completed (7 postponed)
- Tuesday: 16 completed

Week 44 (Final)
Sunday (final) - Nice to be back on track. Finished out the week well. Due to a change I made at the start of the week, there's also nothing carrying over. Everything I wanted to do for this week is done, and a new week starts later today.
This week:
Saturday evening - Happy Birthday, me. Or as my daughter sang this morning "Happy Birthday to you... Happy Birthday to you... wait... what comes next?" When we posted that on Facebook someone responded "cake. cake comes next." The children seem to not like birthdays as they didn't do well this evening. Better than their behavior at Lori's, but still not great. Lori made Bierocks, salad with a really good homemade dressing and German mashed potatoes with bacon. Cake was a very yummy Cinnamon Roll Bundt Cake - light, less sweet than typical cakes (which was fine by me) and really really tasty. Some fun gifts - a photo book of Seattle from the children and from Lori a bar of some really good smelling soap with coffee and orange in it - looks really high end - I mean soap in its own box that doesn't have the word "Dial" imprinted in it - nice and two cool books - one a writing idea book - each page has one or two starter ideas and then lines to write, the other a five-year journal diary type thing - it has a page a day and then at the top of the page it has something like "What made you sad today?" or "What's your mission for tomorrow?" and then a space to write the year and then two lines to quickly jot an answer. That way, in five years, you've got a whole bunch of interesting answers to interesting questions. And a gift certificate to Home Depot that gets me closer to the door I want to buy to install in the garage. Also, the book I'm reading on sensory signals is fascinating. Learning so much about Ben, but also Rachel and even Lori and I.
Friday evening - Nice quiet lazy day at home. And Menchies. We got it to go. Prevented Ben from having any problems. Definitely the way to go. Still need to write a end-of-month recap. Maybe tomorrow. Or not. Not sure how much I'll actually do tomorrow.
Thursday - End of my work week. Hello, long weekend. Coffee and watching the rain.
Wednesday evening - I've woken up early today and yesterday. It's been really nice, a chance to spend some time with my family before work. Busy day at work today, but aren't they all? One of these days I need to do some email again.
Tuesday evening - All day long I've been sure it's Wednesday. I kept being surprised all over again to find out it was only Tuesday. I got up earlier this morning which meant more time with my family before work. Which was good because I got stuck at work and got home late and had less time with them after work. Only a little less. But it was packed in that I probably only saw Ben for about 40 minutes, but it was long enough for him to eat with us, sit on the potty, play a little and get all ready for bed including Bible singing (that's where I read from the Bible but with made up melodies instead of just reading it monotone). It was a good day at work and now I'm wrapping up the day listening to heavy rain outside. Yay rain. Getting closer to a blog post. At the very least, there will be one on Saturday.
Monday evening - I wish I had gotten more done. I suppose I got a few big things done and one thing not on my list - adding blue and green lights to the "fancy" tree out front that normally has white lights on it year 'round. Did you see? The Empire State Building is also lit blue and green tonight. Woo! Had a nice night with family and those aren't things you put on the to do list. Also a good day at work today. It felt heavy during parts of the first half of the day, except when I was onboarding a new employee. I have it down to a pretty good science. Maybe I should write a blog post about it. I need to write a blog post soon. I feel really bad about going so long without writing, it's finally starting to bug me.
Sunday afternoon (prep) - Time to try again - I wonder if I should have restarted my numbering with the new year. Oh well, for now it's fine. Why keep track of tasks like this? Helps me keep everything under control. If I need to remember something, hold down the phone and when Siri beeps I say "Remind me to..." and then it's on the list. And then I don't have to think about it anymore. By planning out a week in advance, I have a better chance of keeping the priority stuff priority. I didn't do much to look at my schedule for the week to see if I should adjust any days but for now it's at least good to have a list, keeping with the goal of keeping things simpler.

Week 41 (Final)
Sunday night - Following the same pattern, I got busy Friday and Saturday and didn't post. It's been a good week. Today we had friends over for lunch and that was nice, but still had a lot of day, owing to the fact that we went to the early service for church today. And the Christmas lights are finally off of the house. They're on in piles on the garage floor, but they're not still on the house or in piles in the yard. That's good. In the end, fell way short of the goal of 200 completed for the week.
Wednesday night - It really feels like it should be Thursday night. I was all ready for it to be Thursday night. Work has been good this week, but supremely busy. But, people seem happy so that's really cool. Lori tells me that yesterday Ben was watching a video about ducks and left the room, returning a minute or two later with one of his rubber ducks. This morning she was in his room with him and he was holding a duck but saying "Duckie" in a concerned voice while looking under his bed. She said "You have a duckie. Oh, did you want a different duckie?" and he answered "Different! Different duckie." She looked under the bed, discovered two more and gave them to him and he was happy. Rachel finished all her "must dos" for a second day in a row and even did a "may do." I'm pleased by that. We've got the list on her door so hopefully as she sees the progress she'll be inspired to keep getting everything done. (I had wondered if it was too hidden on the refrigerator.) Slept better last night. Not as well as the night before, but still pretty good. A co-worker asked if I'd slept better. When I said I had he said he could tell, I looked a lot better. D'oh. I didn't get as much done today as I would have liked. But I got home from work later than intended and then Ben was up later than usual so more family time, less chores.
Tuesday night - Better sleep. Sleeping caplet (pill sounds better) and ear plugs. According to my sleep tracker, slept a little bit then was awake for awhile and then slept really hard until Lori woke me up at almost 7. Weird day at work. Not exactly sure why. I think it was good. Finished a book during my walk today. Nice dinner (chicken over potatoes - yum!) with the family at home. Rachel did all her chores today (yay!) and I've been having Ben sit on the potty seat each night for three minutes as soon as I get home. He's doing better at sitting there the entire time. He's not being, um, productive, but he's tolerating sitting there. It's only a matter of time, I think. Lori said they said he did really well in speech therapy today. Got almost all of the chores done and started my taxes. Feeling quite tired. Under my calories again today.
Monday night - I left a few things incomplete, like writing a blog post. Just didn't have time and didn't want to force one. I slept really poorly last night. I don't know if I got even 3 hours last night.
Sunday night - ok, I need to be committed this week to checking in daily on here. Even if it's a little more work, it's the only way I'll take this more seriously. We took a walk this afternoon. Clearly we haven't taken Ben on enough walks - he kept pulling away at neighbors' homes. We thought he was just cold and was mistaking their homes for ours and wanting to go in. But after a few homes, he protested "treats!" - so I guess he was remembering Halloween, even though he didn't like it so much when we were doing it, I guess he understood well enough what he was getting. We finished the walk and headed in. I did not track my calories today and only had three glasses of water, but I did reach my steps goal (8,431/8,000). Last night I probably got 4 hours of sleep at most - probably my worst night of sleep ever. We've just started watching Arrested Development on Netflix.

Week 40 (Final)
Final - So I think this week proved that I need to be checking in nightly. So I'm going to set a new cut-off of 9 pm - whatever's done is done, whatever's not done is not done.
serenity - not this week. Working towards cleaning up our bedroom to make it more of a haven, did get some work done on it this week. But I would say that serenity is in short supply in my life. I'm not sure how much I'm actually allowed, but it's still important to me. I'm also probably thinking a lot about last which was horrible, probably the worst night of sleep in my entire life.
simplicity - my life is still so far from simple, but I'm keeping this in mind.
serendipity - this is an interesting one - I can't actually force serendipity, that's an unexpected outcome, right? There was something fun today - we ended up taking a walk hoping the fresh air and exercise would tire out the children. We discovered we don't do enough walks because Ben kept trying to pull away to go up people's driveways. We thought he was just mistaking their houses for our house and wanting to go back inside because it was cold. But after the third house or so he started insisting "treat" - apparently thinking about to Halloween. So he got a treat when we got home.
focus - not constantly, but it's been top of mind which has helped me in some decisions and some efforts. Is this unnecessary complication? If yes, then why am I thinking about it? This is so far definitely easier to think about than simplify was.
Thursday - no, this week has not improved as far as keeping up on stuff. I really pulled tomorrow and Saturday back to the bare minimum. We'll see what I actually can finish this week.
Monday - Things were thrown out of whack last week with Christmas and I haven't really gotten back into the swing of things.

Week 38 (Final)
Final - I kept the meter running tonight because I was on a roll. So way past my goal of 215 completed by the end of the week. Lots of stuff added during the week that wasn't there before.
Wednesday night - I neglected to update last night. I didn't get a lot done, but some of the stuff I got done is now off the list for some time.
Monday night - Just before 5, I started to feel really ill. I wasn't even sure I wanted to drive home. But I couldn't just stay in the office so I did drive myself home, stopping on the way to pick up pizza. Got home, took some pain medication and then sat at the table with my family, not touching my food, thinking I was just going to go curl up on the couch and try not to die. (I let pizza get cold!!!). I helped Ben get ready for bed. Instead of reading/singing from the Bible, I let the iPhone play a recording and fell asleep in Ben's room while the guy ready from John 1 and 2. I woke up just as the second chapter ended and sat in there with him for a little longer (he seemed sad). I went downstairs, felt awesome, ate three pieces of cold pizza, had a soda and got quite a few chores done. I'm so grateful to be feeling good right now.

Sunday night - new week. No planned events, so for now, I think I have a reasonable list set for the week. I'm off of work on Friday, so hopefully I can end this week well finally getting to some stuff that's been on my list for far too long. (I did, however, carry over 39 items from last week. That's not so great.)

Week 37 (Final)
Sunday evening - Ok, getting out of the habit of regular posts may have been a day idea. I got over 200 which was one of my goals for the week, but I didn't get any done on Friday at all. On Saturday I did a lot of stuff outside. They weren't so much checklist items, but it was stuff that needed to get done, like getting the Christmas lights up.
Wednesday evening - forgot to update last night. Event tomorrow night may seriously limit my ability to get much done. (I don't think it was on my calendar.) It is late. Reading an interesting but complicated book right now called Lexicon about the power of words. That is, a fiction book in which there are people who know of certain words that can cut right through people's defenses and cause them to be agreeable to anything the person asks them to do.
Monday evening - feels like it should be Tuesday
Sunday evening - got a lot done but some of it just re-spawned to later in the week.
Sunday afternoon - Ok, attempting to further simplify this. Programmed 25 items per day for the rest of the week (some will repeat). 35 additional items in the "Nice to Have" category.
Ok, let's rock this thing.

Week 36 (Final)
Ok, not a great week for me.I think I've tried to go too lean and lost some of the tracking and accountability necessary to do well.
While there was some vacation and sick time in there, I could have done more this week. It has been extremely cold here.
Ok, time to plan the new week and get back on track.

Week 35 (Saturday)
Saturday - didn't get as much done as I'd hoped to today. This cold is still impacting me. I know it's an excuse, but it's leaving me mentally drained and more susceptible to noise and being overwhelmed by stimuli. I would like it to be done and over with.
Friday - Well, this has been an interesting week. No, wait, the other thing. Tedious. I stayed home from work sick on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday was Thanksgiving. Two hours in the car to get to dinner and back and I mostly hung out on the couch and didn't interact much with people (Ben wasn't interested in eating and I wasn't feeling that great.) Best I've felt all week was the drive home. Felt better today, but still a little irritated. Missing work did mean I stayed on my diet more days. So now 23/28 up to this week and then 5/6 so far this week, but today only by a very thin string. 3.5 pounds to go last time I weighed myself, but with minimal exercise this week and healthy appetite despite the diet, I'm guessing now wouldn't be a good time to weigh myself. Worked my way through Skyfall on Netflix over the past few days. Not at all impressed. While I'm not sure why, I groaned as soon as I saw Javier Bardem's name in the credits at the beginning. But I looked at IMDB and don't know anything else he's been in, so not sure why. But I was right. Didn't care for him at all. And the story was lame, but I did like how it felt like it did a good job of honoring the past. Also still making my way through Battlestar Galactica and just started Continuum. And I finished Enchantment and Ruby Read and am now reading Sapphire Blue. Three vacation days next week.
Monday - I'm going to do something differently this week - reduce the amount of logging on here. I haven't abandoned the task list - it's still going quite well. I just don't need (I don't think... we'll see) to put as much in writing. Things are going well. I'm working on a post called "confidence" that'll come out soon. I just need some quiet time to think about exactly what I want to say, but it's about how great things are going on so many fronts.
I finished Enchantment and am now working on a fiction book Lori recommended called Ruby Red. Under it on my nightstand are books 2 and 3 of that series. And there's a few other books that I checked out. Good thing I plan to spend some time reading next week.
Shoot... still need upload some photos from October and here it is almost the end of November.
As of Sunday, I was 23 out of 28 for staying on my diet. (This week, 2 for 2, but tomorrow and Thursday and Saturday may prove difficult. But with only 4.5 pounds left to go, must keep my eye on the prize.)

Week 34 (Final)
The following Monday - the weekend got away from me. I didn't get as much done last week as I'd wanted to, but I'm getting my list into shape.
Thursday - Good day as far as getting stuff done. Went off script for a few things that just felt like they ought to be taken care of. I feel like I'm getting in a good rhythm at work as well about staying on top of everything I'm supposed to be doing. Which is good because I still have two open positions, overseeing an offshore team of two and my two other team members are both out of the office for awhile, leaving me to hold down the fort.
Tuesday - Did not get as much done tonight as I would have liked and I'm not sure I have a good explanation. That's a little bit of a disappointment.
Monday - Finally got around to doing a weigh-in. Now, it was a different scale, but it was a six pound drop, so that's pretty exciting. Getting very close to my goal. Didn't complete as much as I'd like today, had difficulties waking up (despite a decent night's sleep) and I had to shave, so that always takes some time. But it was a good day and I'm feeling good about the week.
Sunday - brought forward 21 items incomplete when I started the new week. I'm going to take a simpler approach this week. No fancy grid, simpler end-of-day tracking. So goal is just end the week with 200 items completed and as few items as possible incomplete, try to clear the rest of the "nice to have" list.
On Diet: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (and 16 of the last 21 days)
Simplification: Cleaned out a caddy under the sink, thanks in part to a minor plumbing leak
Book: Enchantment by Guy Kawasaki (154 of 240)

Week 33 (Final)
Final - Busy weekend. Successful week. Stayed on the diet 6 out of 7 days.
Thursday evening - Didn't get as much done as I'd hoped, postponed some easy stuff I just ran out of time to do. Bleh.
Wednesday evening - Got up earlier this morning, but not as early as I'd intended. Got some stuff done before work. Unplanned stuff came up after work that took me a little off-track, but still got most of what I wanted to get done done. What was left was something I need to move to this weekend and a few blog posts that are overdue. I haven't felt like I've had time for blog posts, feedly or email. I blame Netflix. Yay, Netflix.
Tuesday evening - I guess I didn't make any notes last night, just filled in the grid and moved on. Not sure about the grid, maybe it's silly. Got a lot done tonight. Pretty pleased with that, especially considering the poor sleep last night and that I slept in until the absolute last moment this morning. I am committed to not repeating that. Right now I have a call each morning with the off-shore team, but that means it's like 10 pm their time. I'm trying to decide if there's any way to move that earlier in my morning. Not sure yet, or if that would just move it even more into the middle of their evening.
Sunday evening - A much better afternoon and evening. Now, let's see if I can keep it together this week and not let it fall apart again.
Sunday afternoon (prep) - Ok, last week was my worst non-vacation week ever. So, I'm ready to do better this week. The most obvious thing is that I need to stop sleeping in. I need to get up and do stuff before work. I did make some calls last week to cancel some services that we used to consider essential. That did save us about $160 on our monthly bills. That's cool. For one of the calls, I called them up, they transferred me, the guy at the other end said "I understand you're looking to save some money. How's half-off for a year sound? I'll just cut the price in half." I did a little happy dance and said "I will take it." I had thought I was going to have to tell him what the competitor was charging or something, but there was no negotiation, just a "let's get this done." deal. I like that.
