Incomplete To Do List

It was my goal this weekend to do nothing. I failed. I guess I forgot, or I got busy. Now, Saturday was pretty spectacular in that I read a lot and sat around, but it wasn't quite nothing.

You see, my goal had been to sit down and for 30 minutes, do absolutely nothing. If I feel asleep, cool. If I zoned out and watched the rain, cool. If I had a brilliant idea and figured out what comes after the internet, cool.

But I forgot to sit down and do nothing. Perhaps next weekend.

I can relate to this. When I go to the gym to relax and use either the steam room or the sauna, it is as you wanted to do at home over the weekend. I like to sit and let my mind drift... to do nothing. But lately there have been people in the rooms who insist on very loud, very dumb conversations. If it is something short and sweet like, "hey, check out the chick in the sports bra," I can mumble a one-syllable retort without losing my zen-like state. But these guys (and gals) want to discuss reality TV, traffic on the freeway, or the weather... it breaks my mental stride.

Could you respond in Russian?

Or pretend to be deaf and utter "I don't understand?"

Or wear your iPod earbuds (tucking the plug under towel or in shorts pocket or something)?
