Don't install the iWon prize machine! It adds a file called "AORNUM" to your startup. (BTW: AORNUM is means "Gates of Hades" in some other language.)
Also, this is fun... Soda or pop?

This is ABCNN. Or not. Apparently Disney and AOL/TW have been in talks to spin-off and merge their news organizations? Weird. But not all that weird. I have a book I wrote in elementary school about a trip to the moon. On the moon I watched NBCBS News. So go figure.

Sprint PCS's folly
The mistakes Sprint PCS is still making. (Also talks about other companies, but mostly Sprint PCS.)

WIRED thinks it's time to spin off AOL. I'm pretty sure that won't happen. Too many huge egos would be bruised. (Though I'd be happy to be wrong.)

Fire Steve Case! Fire Steve Case!
Seriously, though... I don't like Steve Case. I think that AOL is overpriced, dumbed-down internet connectivity designed to keep people stupid. On the other hand, we bought Lori's mom a subscription and have been paying for it for over a year now because in Sacramento, they were the only ones who made it really easy and/or had local phone numbers for connectivity. So, by sheer size, they became the most convenient. And we always figured that when it came time to cancel AOL, we'd tell them to cancel the account and then cancel the credit card because everyone knows AOL doesn't cancel accounts.
But, now the shareholders are asking the board to dump Steve Case. It probably won't happen. Me? I voted against the AOL Time Warner merger. But lots of really stupid rich people (like Ted Turner) got greedy and voted yes. Their vote yes is what sank their stocks. Indirectly, the illegal or semi-illegal dealings within AOL didn't help matters, but it would be their problem and not collectively ours if those bozos hadn't voted yes. So, to quote Saturday Night Live, suck on it! I suppose "it" is open to interpretation, but for those of you offended, let me suggest that perhaps "it" is the bitter pill they're having trouble swallowing.

Hello... I've been on vacation. And I just haven't seen anything lately that's all exciting. I don't know if it's because I'm drifting further away from studio life, or if this downturn in the economy has produced less exciting stuff.
Anyhow, I do have one... I love this... basically, a bunch of financial institutions called meetings with companies that make IM software and said "Make these work together." Maybe they'll have the clout to make it actually happen. Would be nice....

From Lori.... Journalists smuggle weapons aboard 14 flights and United Airlines whines because they're "breaking the law." Umm... yeah, I still hate United.

An interesting story from Lori... basically, why some people made it out of the WTC and why some didn't... and the factors that made the difference.
