Reset Button

Today feels like a good day for a reset. In the recent past, I abandoned more cake2, I dropped off my book list, I pretty much missed 40 Days of Community by not starting my reading on time and I've been consistently behind in my parenting class, always doing the reading the day before or day of. On the plus side, we made our budget for last month. So today, May 1, seems like a great time to press the reset button.

So, I'm ready to get on with things. With two mini-vacations and Mothers' Day in the next few weeks, I'm ready to face those and figure out what planning needs to happen.

I'm not back to my reading list, yet. I am working through the stack of magazines on my nightstand, so I'm still reading. I'm going to let Newsweek lapse. It was a free subscription and they wrote something recently that ticked me off to the point that I just decided it wasn't worth putting up with their stringent bias just for indepth on news. So that helped reduce the pile. I also got a little off-track with my daily Bible reading, so I started over today with Matthew chapters 1 and 2. I read two chapters in 40 Days and I will get caught up. Unfortunate is that I'll miss two of the next three services at church (will attend elsewhere) and will miss two of the next three small groups, meaning that I've pretty much missed the opportunity to be as relevant and contributive to this particular study. A shame, it's pretty good one.

And More Cake2 is back. I have 9-1/2 pounds to lose. This is doable. I'm gonna get it done, I'm going to be my own drill sergeant. New plan is that I have to do a certain minimum amount of exercise per day and failing that, I have to carry half of it forward. No more just missing a day.

I'm also planning to be in bed no later than 11:30 pm and out of bed by 6:00 am daily, save weekends.

I'm feeling good. I could write more, but I want to finish my breakfast, start a load of laundry and get out the door to work.

But yeah, I'm feeling good.

Spring Has Sprung

Wow... just like that. 62 degrees outside. On the warm side for a thick shirt and black pants. Had to ditch my coat in the car and even then, phew. I am definitely not complaining. It is happy weather. But I knew from early on in the day that it was going to be a good day.

Here Comes the Rain Again...

Today is shaping up to be a great day. I drove by myself today in my own car (usually we carpool in Lori's car, and when we would drive separately, I'd still have to take Lori's car since it has the carseat and my work is closer to Rachel's ex-daycare.). I got to drive fast on some empty roads, too.

And it was pouring down rain. Since it was raining and I was driving by myself, there was no point in even going near the freeways or nearby parallel streets, so I stayed south, venturing into San Marino. San Marino is designed to frustrate drivers so that non-residents won't go into the neighborhood unless they have a reason to. But with my brand new GPS, I had a reason to. I had it direct me to a Starbucks I'd never been to. Parked next to a Bentley, got out and strode to the Starbucks in the pouring rain wearing my trench coat (don't get to wear it much down here) and ordered myself a Venti Marble Mocha Macciato, a new drink I'd never tried before but really like. Back into the car, the classical music up, being a little bummed that on our last trip up I had discovered that Seattle's classical station was gone. I didn't think about it long because it was more fast driving on empty roads and fun confusing the GPS and making not going where it was telling me to, so it'd have to re-route me.

Get to work, get my favorite doughnut from the Friday doughnut box, sit down at my desk and go online to look for music only to discover that I mis-remembered the station in Seattle where the classical music was, and that it was still on the air and that it actually streams on the internet.

So here I sit, on my last day of work, in a very quiet office, with my Starbucks, my doughnut and some Seattle music while it pours outside. Yesterday I paid off all the credit cards and today I'll pay off Lori's car. Later today they're having what sounds like is a big production for my surprise going away party.

Yes, it's going to be a great day. (I saw a little thing the other day I liked... it said 'Live your life as an exclamation, not an explanation.')
